JFY's GED program has seven divisions that are designed to help prepare you for your GED and beyond.

Level I

A four-week entry class that serves as a basic refresher course to reacquaint you with being in a learning environment. There are several competency tasks you are required to complete before moving on to Level II or being placed in the jobs workshop. You will also take a Pre-GED test to determine what subject areas you need to improve.

Level II

This prepares you to take the GED test. Some of the skills you will learn and develop in Level II include reading comprehension, math, analyzing and evaluating information, and test-taking strategies. Most students need about four months of preparation in Level II before they are ready for the GED exam.

U.S. Constitution

Each student who plans to obtain a GED must fulfill the Public Law 195 requirement or pass the U.S. Constitution test. If you did not do either of these in high school, Jobs For Youth offers both the Constitution classes and the test. If you pass the test at JFY, you will receive an authorization letter to confirm that you have fulfilled this requirement. This authorization is necessary for you to receive your GED Certificate.

After-School Tutoring

During this time you will work one-on-one with an instructor, volunteer, and/or an interactive computer program to strengthen any weaknesses you may have in one or more of the GED subject areas.

After-School Workshops

The after-school workshops help create the connection between getting your GED and planning for your future. These workshops offer life skill lessons that can help you achieve goals in higher education, developing your career, having a healthier life as an individual, or living better in your community. Subjects include budgeting, love and relationships, preparing for college, how to get a good-paying job, time management, leadership development, and much more.

Home Study

Home study is an option for students who have extenuating circumstances that prevent them from regular participation in class. Home study students are given packets of preparatory assignments to work on outside of class, and meet once a week with a staff instructor for review of assignments and individual tutoring.

Continuing Education Consultant Program

Once a week, education professionals who work in local junior colleges, state universities, community colleges, and private institutions of higher learning come in to offer mini-seminars on financial aid, scholarships, career counseling , and other topics related to furthering your education.
