WORKSHOP VOLUNTEER
Training Facilitator
| OBJECTIVE |
To teach low-income youth the skills necessary to conduct
successful job search for entry level employment.
|
| DUTIES |
Using
established curriculum, facilitate small group and/or
class activities that develop students' abilities to articulate
their skills and experience.
|
| QUALIFICATION |
Minimum
two to three years experience in business or professional
field. Supervisory or managerial experience helpful.
Familiarity with interviewing and hiring procedures.
Experience
or demonstrated skill in facilitating group activities,
training others. Ability to provide constructive feedback
to clients, willingness to share knowledge of the work
place.
Energetic, outgoing personality, and desire to work
with low-income youth ages 17-24.

| TRAINING |
Volunteer
will attend a pre-service training covering teaching methods
and curriculum. Classroom teachers will serve as immediate
supervisors and provide training and feedback as needed.
|
| EVALUATION
|
Volunteers
will have an opportunity after eight weeks of service
to provide feedback on their experience. An annual evaluation
of volunteer performance is done by staff, and volunteers
evaluate the program and their experience at that time.

Written Communications Assistant
| OBJECTIVE |
To help low-income youth learn the skills necessary to
generate resumes and business correspondence for us in
their search for entry level jobs.
|
| DUTIES |
Become
familiar with materials and exercises used to teach writing
skills and resume construction. Work individually with
clients on articulating their skills and experience for
use in a resume. Facilitate small group discussions on
the purpose of cover letters and thank you letters within
the job search process. Assist clients in constructing
cover letters and thank you letters that outline their
interests and abilities.

| QUALIFICATION |
College
degree preferred or minimum of two years work experience.
Experience in writing business letters, applying an interviewing
for employment, familiarity with resume construction.
Strong verbal and written language skills. Ability to
provide constructive feedback to clients, willingness
to share knowledge with them. Energetic, outgoing personality,
and desire to work with low-income youth ages 17-24.

Interviewer
| OBJECTIVE |
To prepare low-income youth for success in the search
for entry-level employment.
|
| DUTIES |
Conduct
individual interviews with clients for hypothetical entry
level positions. Complete evaluations for each interview,
providing verbal feedback to clients regarding their performance.
Participate in a minimum of two one-hour interview sessions
per month.
|
| QUALIFICATION |
Minimum
two to three years experience in business or professional
field. Experience in interviewing, hiring and supervising
employees. Ability to provide constructive feedback to
clients, and willingness to share knowledge of the interview
process. Energetic, outgoing personality, and desire to
work with low-income youth ages 17-24.
|
| TRAINING |
Volunteers
will attend a pre-service orientation to acquaint him/her
with clients' backgrounds and the structure of the program.
Staff teachers will serve as immediate supervisors and
provide feedback to the volunteer as needed.
|
| EVALUATION

will have an opportunity after eight weeks of service
to provide feedback on their experience. An annual evaluation
of volunteer performance is done by staff, and volunteers
evaluate the program and their experience at that time.

GED
TUTOR IN MATH
| OBJECTIVE |
To help high school dropouts prepare for GED exam.
|
| DUTIES |
Assist
teachers in GED classes, working with individuals and
small groups. Help implement emphasis on team activities
by facilitating and coaching group projects and assignments
in reading, writing, and math. Participate in one 50-minute
class per week for at least three months. Volunteers must
choose a regular time for which they attend every week.
|
| QUALIFICATION |
Strong
interest in teaching young adults. Ability to provide
constructive feedback. Energetic, outgoing, highly reliable,
able to manage a fast-paced environment. Strong desire
to work with youth ages 17-24.
|
| TRAINING |
Volunteers
attend a pre-service training covering teaching methods
and curriculum. The workshop teacher serves as immediate
supervisor and will provide instruction and feedback as
appropriate.
|
| EVALUATION
|
Volunteers
will have an opportunity to give their on-the-job impressions
after eight weeks of service. At the end of each fiscal
year, a written evaluation is distributed in which volunteers
evaluate the program, and staff supervisors evaluate volunteer
performance.
